Many women over 40, like me, we have tried all kinds of diets and healthy eating plans and often failed or gave up after a while. And then the fear of failure kicked in when it comes to our health and diet journey.

Leading to even more doubts and the temptation to give up before giving it a fair chance.

Does this sound familiar?

  1. “I’ve failed so many diets before, why would this time be any different?”
  2. “I’m afraid I’ll lose motivation and go back to my old habits.”
  3. “What if I can’t resist the cravings and end up overeating?”
  4. “I’m scared I won’t see any results and feel like I’ve wasted my time.”
  5. “How do I stick to my plan when life gets so hectic?”

Read on why we feel this way and how we can overcome these doubts, achieve lasting succes and develop new eating habits.

“Why do I fail on a healthy eating plan?”

Have you also tried many diets or healthy eating plans and nothing seemed to stick?

Or set way too high goals like loosing 10 pounds in a week or only drinking green juice for days when you come from a not so balanced diet?

Others can do it, why can’t I?!

And when nobody supports you in this journey it becomes extra challenging. Sometimes you don’t even know where to start.

These feelings are reel but there also reel solutions available.

Understanding the Fear of Failure

The fear of failure often stems from past experiences where things didn’t go as planned. Maybe you’ve tried diets before and didn’t see the results you hoped for. This can lead to a lack of confidence and doubt in your ability to succeed.

But remember, every setback is a setup for a comeback. I know this sounds cheezy but it is the truth! You only fail if you give up or don’t even start right?!  This time can be different with the right mindset and tools.

Common Challenges we face on a healthy eating journey

Busy Lifestyles: “My schedule is so packed, I barely have time to think about what to eat.”

Emotional Eating: “When I’m stressed or emotional, I turn to food for comfort.”

Lack of Planning: “Without a solid plan, I end up eating whatever’s convenient, even if it’s unhealthy.”

Social Situations: “Eating out or attending social events makes it hard to stick to my diet.”

Cravings and Temptations: “I find it really difficult to resist unhealthy snacks and sweets.”

Tips & Tools to conquer the fear of failure on a healthy eating plan

  1. Start Small:
    • Begin with manageable changes to build confidence. Swap soda for water or add an extra serving of veggies to your meals. Small steps are less overwhelming and build a foundation for bigger changes. Moving forward is the key here.
  2. Be Consistent:
    • Consistency is key. Stick to your new habits every day, even when it’s tough. Routine helps turn these habits into a natural part of your life. Read my post Sticking to a meal plan for tips & solutions on how to stay on diet plan with life and its distractions around us.
  3. Track Your Progress:
    1. Keep a journal or use an app to track what you eat, how you feel, and any challenges you face. This helps you stay accountable and see your progress over time.
    2. Tweak the approach if not working. Where does it always go wrong and what can we change to prevent it from happening again?
  4. Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate every small success. This keeps you motivated and reminds you of the progress you’re making. Small steps add up and lead to big results.
  5. Find Support: Surround yourself with supportive friends or join a community of like-minded women. Sharing your journey can provide motivation and accountability. The answer to not feeling overwhelmed or not know what to do can be education and professional support. Look for someone to help you. A coach, courses or a guide to set you on the right path.
