Turmeric is one of my favorite spices, fresh or as a beautiful yellow powder you can get at an Asian market or health food store. The fresh turmeric root can be juiced along with other veggies or grated like ginger. Besides its great color it has a mild peppery taste and a long list of health benefits. I am using turmeric in this delicious Vegan Turmeric Mayo and a Turmeric Shake.
Turmeric has been used for thousands of years in the Ayurveda tradition and as part of the traditional Chinese medicine. It is just a great addition to your daily diet! This little yellow root is rich in anti-oxidants, it has a anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungus properties and powerful cancer fighting agents.
Turmeric works anti-inflammatory, especially great against arthritis and rheumatic arthritis, also great for detoxifying the liver. Powerful against inflammatory based skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema.
Rich in protein, carbs, fiber, niacin, folate, vitamin C, E and K, sodium, potassium, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphor and zinc.
A true Superfood!
How can we add this great spice to our daily diet?!
One of my favorite ways is adding it to a warm drink like tea or a warm turmeric shake with fresh almond milk. Here is my recipe for a lovely creamy Turmeric Shake or Golden Milk.

Ingredients for 2 portions,
- 2 cups fresh almond milk or plant based milk of your choice
- 1 tsp. turmeric powder
- 1 tsp. grated ginger
- a dash of nutmeg or a few cardamom pods
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- a little pinch of sea salt or Himalayan salt, optional
- sweetener of choice, this can be a date or honey, optional
- black pepper to garnish
Put all the ingredients in the blender until creamy, it can be poured through a sieve to eliminate leftover pieces of ginger and date. It can also be heated on a stove, let it simmer for 5 to 10 minutes. Pour it through a sieve and you could froth it up with a whisk or small blender with a ventilation vault to let steam escape.
Cinnamon is also a power addition to a lot of dishes and drinks.
Adding cinnamon makes dishes warming and cousy feeling but it also adds lots of benefits like regulating the bloodsugar, lovely in a green smoothie with pear and banana.

I just love this delicious vegan Turmeric Mayo, made of almonds and sesame seeds, both great sources of calcium and vitamin E. This mayo works great as a dressing on a salad, as a dip for fresh cut veggies or as a sauce on a wrap or vegetable spaghetti.
The ingredients are,
- 2 Tbsp. almond butter
- 2 Tbsp. tahini
- 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
- 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 2 tsp. turmeric powder
- sea salt to taste
- black pepper to taste to activate the turmerics benefits even more
- 1 celery stick cut in fine pieces
- 1/2 cup of water, more if needed
- garnished with fresh cilantro
Add all the ingredients in a small blender or food processor. I used my magic bullit, works great for smaller amounts like this but a small food processor is also fine. In case of lacking both, you can substitute the sesame seeds with tahini and whisk or blend everything together.

Here used as a sauce on a wrap of chard, filled with cucumber, kohlrabi ( can also be cauliflower ), cilantro, tomato, anything you prefer, topped with the turmeric mayo.

Wraps are great, easy to make and wonderful as a snack or lunch on the go!

Njoy and have a great day!
Let me know how you prefer to use this great spice!
